Dear Amelia,

Today you are two months old. We went to the pediatrician this morning, and it turns out that you are growing like a weed. You are now 21 inches long and you weigh 8lb 11oz! This will probably embarrass you later on, but I’d like to tell you that you pooped on the scale while the nurse was weighing you. Not just a little poop, either – you made quite a big mess for a little girl! You also got your first round of shots today, and you didn’t like that AT ALL. You cried so hard that your face turned beet red – it was one of those silent cries, where you contort your face and hold your breath for what seems like forever, then you take a big gulp of air and SCREAM. You have never cried like that before, and for a moment I wondered if you were going to take a page from your Uncle Erik’s book and hold your breath until you passed out. Thankfully, you didn’t take it that far.

You are just about to grow out of your newborn clothes. You’re at that in-between stage, where your newborn outfits are being stretched to the limit , but the 0-3 month outfits we have for you are still too long. So long, in fact, that when I’ve tried to put you in one you somehow manage to get both of your legs stuck in just one of the legs of the sleeper! You can’t wear pants yet (your belly isn’t big enough to hold them up) so for now you’re just going to have to put up with being a little cramped in your sleepers. Maybe I’ll do what your Grandma B did, and just cut the feet off of them! Your eyes are getting bigger and bluer by the day, and your eyelashes are growing quite long. Your hair is growing too, and it looks like it might turn out to be red(ish) – you can thank your Viking ancestors for that!

Your personality is starting to emerge as well, Little One. You are a very serious baby, and rarely give us smiles when we ask. If we watch you, though, you’ll throw in a quick one here and there. You also smile as you are drifting in and out of sleep, and it melts our hearts. One of the fun things you do now is play with your tongue. If I stick my tongue out at you, you’ll start playing with your own tongue, darting it in and out. If I blow a raspberry, your eyes get huge and you freeze, as if you are trying to figure out what I just did. Another of your favorite things is to go flying with Daddy. He will hold you up high, one hand under your arms, one hand holding your feet, and you two (slowly) zoom around the house. You absolutely love this, and if you are crying, this will calm you down instantly. You just open up your big blue eyes and take everything in. When Daddy stops, you’ll start fussing because you want to continue flying! I talked to your Grandpa D this morning, and he says you’re going to be a little daredevil who will give me gray hair.

And I don’t mind that at all.

Love you lots & lots,
Mommy

We talk about Amelia all the time, and can’t wait to see her later this month! She’s so wonderful! I look forward to talking to her and seeing her fly. That sounds like a very good idea in classic Mark fashion. It’s amazing how early they like their routines! The kids and I read the blog whenever we can, and it brightens our day. See you soon!
