Tour

Let’s tour the new site, shall we?

At the top right corner of the site are links to a few different pages. The About page has a link to my very first post, which has been updated to reflect where our lives are today. The Contact page has an email address that you can use if you don’t want to post a comment (or if you want to email me and don’t know my other email address). Mark had me put “AT” in there instead of “@” so that I won’t be spammed by miscellaneous internet junk, but you’ll really want to put the “@” in there when you’re emailing me (I probably didn’t have to tell you that, but I figured I should cover all the bases just to be sure). The Archives page is self explanatory – it just has links to all of my previous posts, which have been imported from the old site.

Also at the top of the page is a quote about birds. I’ll be changing that quote from time to time, so keep your eyes open!

On the left sidebar, you’ll see “Birdro on Twiter”. Most of you probably know about Twitter, but for those who don’t: Twitter is pretty much a mini-blog. Your updates are in answer to the question “What are you doing?”. You can follow different people, and others can follow you. There’s a little more to it, and if you’d like to know more, visit twitter.com. If you’re already on Twitter let me know, as I’d love to follow your updates – I’m Birdro and Mark is MrBlippy.

Right under “Birdro on Twitter”, you’ll see my blogroll. I don’t know any of these people, but I enjoy reading their posts. Check them out if you’d like!

On the right sidebar, you’ll see a few different things. Recent Comments are, well, recent comments.

Next on the right sidebar are the Blog Tags, which will help you if you’re looking for a specific post. At the end of all my posts, you’ll see “Filed under” followed by a blog tag. Basically, if I write a post about Amelia, the blog tag will be “amelia” (and there can be more than one blog tag per post). So, let’s say you want to read all the posts about our wonderful doggie Shelby – all you have to do is click on “shelby” in the list of blog tags and then you’re taken to a list of all the posts with that tag.  The number next to the tag tells you the number of posts with that particular tag. Neat, huh?

Last thing – at the bottom of the right sidebar you’ll see a search box. If there’s something particular you remember about one of my posts, type it in and you’ll be directed to that post. Try typing “sticker”, and you’ll be directed to a post from last summer where I posted a picture of a funny bumper sticker we saw in Blowing Rock, NC. Under the search box is a link you can use if you’d like to subscribe to my posts through a feedreader.

Please send a shout-out to Mark for all of his hard work on the new site! He tailored the whole thing (and especially the Archives page) to be exactly what I wanted. For anything and everything I wanted the site to do, all I had to do was casually mention it and it was DONE! Yes, he’s that smart.

So, there you have it – my new blog! Not much will change about my posts – most of them will probably still be about Amelia (not that you’ll mind). I just felt like changing things up a bit, and I’m very pleased with the results!
