Weekend Wrap Up

August 9th, 2009

Saturday morning we went to Bays Mountain Park. We saw deer, raccoons, chipmunks, wolves, birds of prey and turtles. To shade her almost-bald head from the sun, Amelia wore an adorable hat from Daisha.

I carried Amelia in the Ergo. Whenever I am wearing her I am ALWAYS stopped by people who want to see my pretty baby! I think it’s because most people in this area use strollers for their children and are curious when they see someone “wearing” a baby.  I’ve gotten used to it, since I’m out with her a lot during the week, but poor Mark isn’t used to so much attention!

Sunday we pretty much stayed around the house. Mark seems to have caught Amelia’s cold – he was feeling pretty bad. I don’t know if she could sense that Mark was feeling bad or what, but Amelia was wearing her cranky-pants all morning and didn’t want to eat her breakfast OR take her morning nap. She finally rested for a bit and then was her normal happy self for the rest of the day.

Amelia rolled over from her back to her belly today – first time ever! She was napping (well, I was trying to get her to nap) and she started crying loudly. I went in to check on her and she was on her belly! I guess she scared herself and that is why she was crying. We’ll practice more tomorrow and hopefully she’ll get used to it! Next step: crawling!

This afternoon I made some pear baby food for Amelia, using a great little food processor Mark’s mom found for me. Our freezer is now stocked with applesauce, pears, mangoes, plums, kiwi, peaches, green beans, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, zucchini, pumpkin and butternut squash.

I love making & freezing food for Amelia – it takes a bit of time to prepare it all, but it’s really only a few hours every month or so. After that, it’s wonderfully easy to grab a few cubes of food from the freezer and pop them in the microwave. Wholesome Baby Food has been an excellent resource – I recommend the site to anyone who is thinking about making their own baby food!

I love wholesome baby food.com. It is great. I love making Lily’s baby food too. Its so easy and I know what she’s eating. Amelia is eating a great varity of food these days. We really haven’t gotten into fruits yet, she hated bananas so I haven’t tried anything else yet. She also hated green beans but loves acorn and butternut squash and sweet potatoes and we just tried peas yesterday and they went over pretty well. Oh and avocado is always good with her but it doesn’t seem to freeze well so I don’t feed her that often.

I would really like to have an Ergo, I have heard so much good stuff about them. But I have a mai tai and really like it so I can’t justify the $120 for the Ergo. I wish I could though. :)

Isn’t it fun making food for them?!? I just made a few “casserole” type things this past week – one with salmon/potatoes/carrots and another with beef/broccoli/sweet potatoes. Now that she’s 8 months old I’m going to try giving her some meat for more protein. We’ll see how she likes it!

The Ergo is one of my absolute favorite baby items. It took a lot of thinking (and budgeting) but I am so glad we got it. It’s such great quality that I know it’ll be around for any more kiddos that we may have! Regardless of which carrier I use (Ergo or Sleepy Wrap), I think it’s wonderful just to be able to wear her – and I know she’s much happier than being in a stroller. I’ll bet Lily loves being with you in the mai tai!
