Welcome to birdro.com!
My husband Mark and I live in the southeast U.S. with our lovely daughters, Amelia and Florence. We also share our lives with a lab(ish) goofball of a dog named Shelby.
Mark and I had planned on going to a parenting conference in town this weekend – Grandma and Grandpa B were coming over to baby sit Amelia while we were gone. As it turns out, we didn’t end up going to the conference. Mark is on call this weekend, which means that he worked four 10 hour days this past week – he was exhausted after work on Friday. I was pretty tired myself, and we both figured that while we were excited about going to the conference, we were bound to fall asleep if we tried to sit and listen to someone talk for two hours.
So, Grandma and Grandpa B still came over and babysat Amelia, but instead of going to the conference, Mark and I went out on a date! It was our first date in at least four months, and it was wonderful. I got to carry an actual purse instead of a diaper bag! We browsed around some shops, ate supper, and picked up some frozen yogurt for dessert. It was great to have some “us” time – like I said, it had been a while and was something we really needed. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa B!
Saturday morning, Amelia let us sleep in until 8 AM. After her morning nap we all hopped into the car and took Shelby to PetSmart to get her nails trimmed. While I stayed with Shelby, Mark and Amelia went to look at the birds and fish. I think Amelia and I will definitely head back there on cold/rainy/snowy days this winter – she really enjoyed looking (and waving) at the animals!
Saturday evening we went to visit some friends – even though we left our house right when she would normally be going to bed, Amelia was ready to go! Jimmy, Leslie and their little boy Wes came into town to visit Jimmy’s parents. It was our first time meeting Wes, who is 10 months old, and it was their first time meeting Amelia. We had a great time catching up with them and a few of our other friends!
Of course, none of the kids are looking at the camera. Oh well! Amelia was very well behaved the whole time, especially since she stayed up three hours after her bedtime!
Amelia kept rolling over onto her belly on Saturday night and would wake up screaming – Mark stayed up and kept turning her back over until about 4 AM so that I could sleep. I really hope she realizes soon that she already knows how to roll from her belly to her back! As a result of her bad night of sleep, she didn’t really want to take a morning nap.
We ended up having a breakfast picnic on her bedroom floor instead. All of her toys were invited – especially Jacques the Peacock, because chewing on him makes her gums feel better! By the time she finally decided to nap, it was too late to make it to church. We could have just gone anyway and hoped that she napped in the car on the way there, but Mark and I were both sure that would have been just asking for a meltdown. The good news is that she woke up just in time for us to meet Grandma and Grandpa B for lunch!
The rest of the afternoon we just played together at home. The weather was cool and autumn-like, so we broke out a long sleeved onesie that Grandma G bought for Amelia in Norway!
