Weekend Wrap Up, Part 2

August 30th, 2009

Saturday morning we headed up to see Grandma and Grandpa B.

We went to Grandpa B’s office for a bit – Amelia was very tired, so we tried to get her to nap in the Ergo while Mark walked around with her. Sadly, she didn’t nap. We ended up driving around town for a while so she could catch a cat nap, and then we headed to Fatz Cafe for lunch.

Amelia tried a poppy seed roll and Grandpa B’s cheese grits. She also ate some steamed veggies and some of Mark’s chicken!

We played with some fun toys back at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

Grandma gave Amelia a racquetball to play with – she kept trying to shove it in her mouth. I guess it felt good on her gums – she liked it so much that we brought it home with us and she continued to chew on it for the rest of the afternoon.

Saturday evening, we had our first experience with projectile vomiting. As she was eating supper Amelia threw up all over Mark. ALL OVER. Of course it was the one time we decided to feed her on the couch. Of course! She was c-o-v-e-r-e-d from head to toe, as was her daddy. It just kept coming and coming – Mark and I were frozen, not knowing exactly how to proceed. I finally grabbed Amelia and put her in the bathroom sink while Mark tried to get off the couch and into the bathroom without making an even bigger mess. They both got cleaned up and then I put Amelia to bed. She actually seemed perfectly fine once she was empty. She smiled and giggled and played with the water in the shower, and she nursed really well before going to bed. We’re not sure if it was the new food she ate at lunch or if she just had a tummy ache. We think it’s the later, because she spit up a little bit earlier in the morning, and she normally never spits up. What an experience. I feel awful for writing this, but I laughed. I LAUGHED. Shame on me, right? Well, it was either laugh or cry. My daughter and my husband were covered in baby puke and I laughed. The only thing that slightly redeems me is that I didn’t laugh in front of Mark until AFTER he was all cleaned up. He eventually laughed with me, and said he felt special that he was the one Amelia projectile vomited on first!

When I checked on her before I went to bed, Amelia was sleeping on her belly. It was the first time I’d seen her sleeping that way, although I’m sure she’s been doing it for a while – many times she is on her belly when I go into her room for her 5 AM feeding. She looked so adorable – she had her arms curled underneath her chest and had her head partially resting on her blankie.

Amelia did really well during the night, and seemed right as rain the next morning. Even though she didn’t throw up any more overnight we decided to stay home from church. She wasn’t running a fever, but she had a lot of congestion in her nose, and we could tell that she wasn’t feeling her best.

Shelby woke Amelia up from her morning nap – she just pranced right into Amelia’s room with a toy in her mouth – she wanted to play! We had a fun day at home.

We watched a little bit of Pingu.

During a diaper change, Amelia had a lot of fun giggling with Daddy.

Amelia is always going after the TV remote, so Mark decided to give her the remote to his old Xbox. Now she has a remote of her own – she loves it!

Poor Amelia was fairly cranky/whiny all day. She had a runny nose, and refused to eat her lunch. She also fought her afternoon nap for over an hour before she conked out in my arms. I’m not sure if it’s teething pain or a cold, but I really hope she gets to feeling better soon!

What an adventure! Sounds like you had a lot of fun! Not bad having your first big vomit at over 8 months!!

I’m so sorry about the vomit, that has to be no fun. I haven’t experienced that yet and like Amelia, Lily doesn’t spit up very often so I don’t know what I’ll do when she does vomit. But I’m pretty sure I’d laugh too if I wasn’t the one covered.

OMG that giggle is to die for.
