Welcome to birdro.com!
My husband Mark and I live in the southeast U.S. with our beautiful two year-old, Amelia. We also share our lives with a lab(ish) goofball of a dog named Shelby.
On Friday morning when Amelia and I went outside to water our flowers, we found that her wildflower seeds had sprouted. We were both very excited to see her hard work pay off – she has been watering her seeds every morning!
On Saturday morning we went up to Grandma and Grandpa B’s house. Mark and I left Amelia with them and went out on a date! We grabbed a quick lunch and went to a movie. As much as we love our little girl, it was so wonderful to be able to get out during the day, just the two of us, and spend some time together. We’re so thankful that Grandma B suggested it and was so willing to babysit! Amelia had a blast “helping” in the yard while we were gone. After a while she had a quick wardrobe change to keep the dirt off of her white top. Grandma and Grandpa had the perfect gardening shirt for her! Amelia is definitely developing a love for the outdoors!
On Sunday morning Shelby ran right through our new screen door. Mark installed it on Friday night, and since Shelby was up at Grandma and Grandpa B’s house running around with their dog Sienna, she didn’t know it was there. Mark was able to fix the screen door and it is (thankfully) as good as new. Shelby was very embarrassed and sulked around the house for the rest of the day, being sure to keep her distance from the screen door.
We had lunch with Grandma and Grandpa B, and then stopped by the dollar store to pick up a few things. Grandma B bought Amelia this neat purple shovel! After we got home and Amelia took a nap, we went outside to play with a bowl of water and her new shovel.
We were both having a lot of fun, but then I spotted a few yellow jackets flying around. Amelia was not happy at all when I scooped her up and ran inside. To try to make up for it, I let her keep playing with her shovel and bowl full of water on the kitchen floor. That was definitely not my best parenting decision . . . when my back was turned, Amelia stood up too quickly and fell straight back onto the tile floor. My heart stopped as I scooped her up and held her close, but she stopped crying almost instantly and wanted to keep playing. We kept a close eye on her for the next hour or so, but she was acting just like her normal self (ate all of her supper, enjoyed her bath and ran around the house like a whirlwind of energy) so we’re pretty sure she’s all right. I’ll check on her a few times this evening just to be sure, but I’m pretty sure she’s forgotten all about it. It’ll be a long time before I forget though – I know it’s silly, but I feel like such a bad mom for not anticipating that fall.
