Welcome to birdro.com!
My husband Mark and I live in the southeast U.S. with our lovely daughters, Amelia and Florence. We also share our lives with a lab(ish) goofball of a dog named Shelby.
On Friday I decided to start transitioning Amelia down to one nap per day. She’s been having a bit of trouble falling asleep at night, and was only taking two 30 minute naps (if that) per day. I figured that if I kept her awake until after lunch, she would take a longer nap. Needless to say, our morning was a bit rough. My sweet girl would go from happy to sad in a mater of minutes. I fed her lunch at 11 AM and she made it to 11:30 before crashing. I put her in her crib and she napped for 90 minutes! Just as she was waking up, Mark surprised us by coming home early! The three of us had a wonderful afternoon – Mark worked on his car for a while and he and Amelia played with water from the hose. While they were playing together I went and took some pictures of dandelion puffs – they’re all over our yard!
(happy)
(sad, obviously)
Later that afternoon Mark and I were playing with Amelia and asking her about different emotions and I got some of it on video. This is definitely one of my all time favorite videos – it makes me laugh every time I watch it!
On Saturday morning Amelia woke up at about 6AM and chattered and played in her crib until 7:30. We all got up and ate breakfast and by 9:30 Amelia was yawning and rubbing her eyes . . . I think the transition to one nap is going to have to be on a day to day basis. I put her down for a nap at 9:30 and she slept for an hour. She went down for another hour-long nap later in the day. I think that on days when she gets up really early (like Saturday) we’re going to have to do two naps. On the days she gets up around 7:30 or 8 I think one nap will suffice. I’ll try to read her cues and let her tell me when she’s ready for only one nap. I guess we’ll just be living in a state of transition for the next little bit!
After Amelia woke up from her morning nap, Mark kicked me out of the house for “Mommy Time”. I was able to get quite a few errands done, and I also spent an hour in a coffee shop drinking a frappe and reading a great book! Later in the day Amelia helped me make some delicious cinnamon raisin bread for Sunday’s breakfast, and I made whole wheat calzones for supper – yummy!
On Sunday we went up to the lake by Grandma and Grandpa B’s house and watched the ducks. They were very loud, but Amelia had a great time! We ate lunch and then went to Marble Slab for some dessert – Amelia LOVED her ice cream!

Amelia needs to come out to Missouri and watch Uncle Paul throw ice cream around at Cold Stone Creamery!
