Welcome to birdro.com!
My husband Mark and I live in the southeast U.S. with our beautiful two year-old, Amelia. We also share our lives with a lab(ish) goofball of a dog named Shelby.
I went into Amelia’s room on Friday afternoon to wake her up from a really long nap. I thought she had been sleeping for over three and a half hours, but when I went into her room it was evident she hadn’t been sleeping the whole time. Not only had she thrown her blankie and bear out of the crib (that’s a regular occurrence) but she had also unzipped her sleepsack, wriggled her arms out of it and tossed it on the floor and she wasn’t wearing her pants! I’m just lucky she didn’t have a poopy diaper ready to tear off – what a mess that would have been! We spent the rest of the afternoon reading books and goofing off. After supper Amelia discovered a new favorite dessert – fresh blueberries ($1.99/pint – I bought 6 pints!) topped with plain yogurt and drizzled with a bit of agave nectar. I ate what she didn’t finish – it was very tasty!
On Saturday morning we got up bright and early and headed to the Blue Plumb Festival. Amelia had a great time riding in the Ergo. Since we got there so early, there weren’t many arts & crafts vendors open, but we still walked around looking at all of the booths. Amelia kept spotting balloons and squealing! On our way back to the car Amelia decided that she wanted to walk – she was wearing her new monkey shirt from Grandma G and every few steps she would stop, point to her tummy and giggle. What a funny girl! Saturday afternoon Mark and Amelia had a tea party with Giggles – Amelia and her daddy were both laughing so hard! I really wish I had gotten a video of them – I absolutely LOVE watching the two of them together. Mark really is a wonderful dad.
On Sunday we went to the early service at church and them came home so Amelia could nap. She slept for about two hours, and then we got in the car and headed up to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. We all went to a Chinese buffet for lunch and Amelia did wonderfully. We had a table for six, so we put Amelia in her highchair between me and Mark. She ate more at lunch today than she has ever eaten before in a restaurant (normally she just picks at her food), and she didn’t whine and cry to sit in my lap – I was able to eat in peace! She ate a lot of fresh fruit, some chicken and rice, and of course she had some lo-mein! It was so funny watching Amelia slurp her lo-mein noodles – Grandma and I kept laughing and laughing, which (of course) made Amelia slurp more and more.
Later in the afternoon Grandma and Grandpa gave Amelia a really fun present – a new pair of shoes! They are to replace the gold star shoes Grandpa got for Amelia a while back – she has long since grown out of that pair. These gold shoes are still a bit big (she is wearing 5.5 and these are 6 to 7), but Amelia had a blast clomping around their house in them. She made about ten laps of the house, going through the living room, back to the kitchen where she banged on the drop-leaf table, into the dining room and back into the living room. EVERY TIME she went through the kitchen, she hit that drop-leaf on the table – the rest of us were just sitting in the living room looking at each other, waiting to hear that ‘thump’. Each time we heard it, we would all laugh and look for her to round the corner into the dining room. What a funny little girl we have!

She is getting so big! And seems like quite the ham!!!! I miss you guys so much! I hope we get to come visit again this summer so we can catch up, especially since cold and flu season is gone!!!
I’m thinking about trying the EC method for potty training. Your note about Amelia stripping in her crib reminded me of it! Have you ever heard about it? What do you think? Glad everyone is doing well and Mark’s tea party skills are coming in handy
Love you all!
I’ve heard really good things about EC! I’m not sure it would work for us right now, just because Amelia is already almost 18 months old, you know? I have noticed that she is becoming aware of when she is going to the bathroom and when she needs a new diaper – that’s a really good indication that she’s ready to potty train. I think we’ll be buying a potty in a few weeks just to have it around and have her get used to it. It’s scary to think about not being able to rely on diapers though!
I really REALLY hope you all are able to visit this summer. We will have to have you all over for a play date!
