On Christmas Eve morning we opened gifts from our family in Florida, and then played with fun new toys for the rest of the day. Both of our families are extremely generous – we are so blessed! We had a lot of fun playing with her water drawing board – just fill the markers with water and you can have mess-free coloring fun! Amelia also played dress up with a fun skirt and a monkey hat – too cute! Later that afternoon we packed up the car and drove to Grandma & Grandpa’s for the night. We were expecting some snow and didn’t want to risk not being able to get to their house on Christmas morning.

We had a white Christmas! When we woke up the snow was falling gently, and it continued falling for the rest of the day. We had a yummy breakfast and then opened more gifts – we are so blessed! After all of the excitement of the morning, Amelia crashed and took a three hour nap, and then we had a delicious lunch/supper. So much good food! After we ate, we took Amelia outside to play in the snow for a bit – lots of fun but very VERY chilly! We left around 6PM so we could get home before the roads got too icy. We had a wonderful Christmas, and are so thankful for all that the Lord has blessed us with!

Daisha was visiting for most of last week and we hardly took any pictures. Being stuck in the house because of inclement weather means that you wear your jammies all day, and that just isn’t conducive to great pictures! We took a few when we were playing out in the snow though, and Mark took some great pictures of the ice we had on Thursday. We had a lovely time during Daisha’s visit, and she brought up some really fun gifts! My family stuffed her trunk full of gifts before she left their house – it was hard to get them all under the tree! We decided that Amelia would open any gifts from Daisha, just because she was here to see her face light up. She gave Amelia some lovely clothes/outerwear and also an awesome red step-stool! She put fish decals all over the stool, and Amelia loves it! She feels like such a big girl now that she is able to stand up at her bathroom sink and wash her hands by herself. The other day I caught her in there on her stool brushing her hair and just grinning at her reflection in the mirror.

Now on to the weekend! Mark and I decided to exchange the gifts we bought for Amelia and each other on Saturday morning, instead of waiting for Christmas Eve like we normally would. With the added gifts from Florida, there were just so many under the tree, and we didn’t want Amelia to get overwhelmed when it came time to open them. As it is, she will open birthday gifts at her party on Tuesday, gifts from her Florida family on Christmas Eve and then we will go up to Grandma and Grandpa B’s house on Christmas day. That is A LOT of unwrapping for such a wee one! We are so incredibly thankful to have such generous families and friends – we are hoping that by spreading the gifts out Amelia will be able to better appreciate all that she receives! Mark was able to get a few fun videos of Amelia playing with one of her new toys (Leapfrog Alphabet Magnets), and also a picture of her using her new oven mitt to get something out of the microwave (although she won’t put on the matching apron or chef’s hat yet)!

If you listen closely in this next video you can hear Amelia say “letter”!

Saturday night I came down with a nasty stomach bug, so Mark and Amelia continued with our Sunday plans (church with Grandma and Grandpa, then to the airport to pick up Uncle Paul, then lunch and back to Grandma and Grandpa’s house) while I stayed home to rest and recuperate. Today I am feeling 95% better, and I am praying that Mark and Amelia do not get this bug. No fun at all!

We are really looking forward to this week. Mark only had to work today, and starting tomorrow he is off for six days! Be on the lookout for more pictures!

After we left the party we drove up to Grandma & Grandpa’s house, where we stayed for most of the day. Amelia took a bath after supper and got into her jammies. She was a very tired little girl, and lounged on the couch with a very tired Sienna! After a little while though, Amelia got a second wind and started to play with Grandma & Grandpa’s computer!

On Sunday Daisha arrived! She and her doggie Era are staying with us for a week, and then they will drive out to their new home in New Mexico. Daisha brought quite a few gifts from our family in Florida. Amelia opened a few of the gifts, and had fun trying on new boots and a puffy vest, while George tried on Amelia’s new sweater!

To make the weekend a little more exciting, Amelia and I had a date at the mall on Saturday! We bundled up and braved the snowy weather so we could ride the escalator, wave at Santa, play in the toy store and get a smoothie and a soft pretzel in the food court. I thought all of that would wear her out and had hopes she would take a long nap. Of course she barely slept 45 minutes before she was up and ready to play again!

We were very glad to have Mark home on Sunday. Amelia really missed her daddy, and she didn’t even want him to take Shelby outside – she was worried that he would be leaving again. Thankfully, the big project he has been working on is completed, and he shouldn’t have to go out of town for a while! We are all very happy to be together again!

On Thursday morning I woke up early and baked some pumpkin bread for breakfast. We watched some of the parade with Amelia, and then drove up to Grandma and Grandpa’s house for a delicious Thanksgiving meal! After we ate, Uncle Paul went out and rented Toy Story 3 – what a fun movie! We had a lot of fun catching up with Aunt C, Uncle M and all three of Amelia’s cousins.

On Friday morning we put up our Christmas tree! First though, Mark braved the Black Friday traffic and went to the grocery store to pick up some eggnog (even though he hates the taste of it). When I was growing up we used to drink eggnog after decorating the tree, and I wanted to share that tradition with Amelia. She had so much fun – she helped put up almost all of our ornaments, and she REALLY enjoyed drinking some eggnog with me while we admired our tree.

On Saturday we packed into the car and drove up to Natural Tunnel State Park. The last time we were there was over a year ago! Although we didn’t get to see a train come through the tunnel, we all had a lot of fun. A big thank you goes out to Grandpa for carrying Amelia the last half of our hike back to the parking lot, and another big thank you to Uncle Paul for sharing some of his great pictures!

Uncle Paul flew in on Saturday morning – we were so excited to see him! We hadn’t seen him in almost a year – he has a week off from school for Thanksgiving, and we are very thankful that he is spending it here with us. We went with Grandma and Grandpa to the airport to pick up Uncle Paul, and we stood on the observation deck and watched him walk off of his plane! It was pretty sunny, so Daddy gave Amelia his glasses – she had a lot of fun wearing them! After lunch and Amelia’s nap, we went to get Grandma and Uncle Paul new cell phones. Amelia was a trooper throughout the whole afternoon and she got to pick out a toy at the bookstore – she chose Thomas the Train!

Thomas has barely left her hand all weekend – she held him as she fell asleep in the car on our way home on Saturday night, she asked for him first thing on Sunday morning, she took him in the car on the way to church, and she played with him throughout Sunday afternoon. What a cutie! Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Paul came over on Sunday afternoon and we had fun watching football, playing with toys, playing with new cell phones and of course watching a Thomas DVD!

It had been quite a long time since we saw them, and we were very surprised when we walked into their house. Grandpa had made Amelia a big playhouse out of a cardboard box! It was big enough that Amelia could invite us in to have tea with her. She had a blast playing in her house – thanks for the great memories, Grandma and Grandpa!!!

We stayed home all day on Sunday. Amelia is still recovering from her cold and has a bit of a cough, so we didn’t want to leave her in the church nursery. Hopefully everyone will be healthy again next week so we can return to church! Mark made a yummy supper and Amelia went to bed early. What a fun and relaxing weekend!

Amelia thought it was so special – she really enjoyed watching it fall! It didn’t last long, but it was beautiful while it lasted. Later in the morning, Mark stayed with Amelia while I ran out to do some errands and have some “mommy time”. I really enjoyed getting out of the house! After Amelia’s nap, we all watched Toy Story together. Amelia thought the toys were great. It was fun watching her watch the movie!

On Sunday we stayed home from church because Amelia’s nose was running like a faucet. We had a great day at home though – we colored pictures while hiding under the dining room table, kicked a ball around the house, pushed George in the stroller (George is Amelia’s HUGE stuffed monkey from Grandpa D) and watched some Thomas the Train. Mark was a wonderful help with Amelia – I was able to finish up some things for my Monday night Bible study, and I was also able to cook some dried beans to use in chili later this week. We had a very restful weekend!

***As a side note, we might just be the only parents whose child did not wake up an hour early due to Daylight Savings Time. She actually woke up at 7:30 (which was 8:30 to her internal clock)! We have no idea how it happened, but we were very thankful for the extra sleep!***

She had a blast looking at all of the animals, especially the chimps!

Sunday was a landmark day for us! It was the first time that Amelia didn’t cry when we dropped her off at the church nursery! She has made some wonderful friends there. On Sunday evening right before bed Amelia got the giggles. She was running around and laughing like a hyena for about 30 minutes before I finally got the camera out.

What a goof!

It WAS her 22-month birthday after all! As a side note – I normally take Amelia’s monthly letter picture on the day of her monthly birthday, but this month I just had to use a picture we took while Grandma and Grandpa were visiting. I think it perfectly captures her mischievous personality! Later in the morning she played Guitar Hero with Daddy – lots of fun! She really looks like she knows what she’s doing!

On Sunday we went to church and then came home for lunch and a long family nap. We spent the rest of the day laughing, playing and looking at pictures from Grandma G & Grandpa D’s visit. What a nice and relaxing weekend!

It was a 2 mile walk, and Mark carried Amelia most of the way. We started out with her in the Ergo, but shortly after we started she decided that she didn’t want to be in the carrier. I still can’t believe Mark carried her for the rest of the walk – she’s pretty heavy!

On Sunday we took some things down to the condo to get it ready for my parents. Grandma G and Grandpa D are driving up from Florida tomorrow and will be spending the week with us! We are very excited about their visit!

Instead, we did some early morning grocery shopping and were baking cookies by 10 AM. Since the recipe I used didn’t call for any eggs, Amelia had her first taste of cookie dough! While the cookies were baking Amelia walked around the house cuddling an oven mit – toddlers are so funny! She went down for an early nap, and when she woke up we took some cookies to Daddy’s office and then went to the park!

On Saturday morning I went to get my hair cut while Mark and Amelia had a daddy-daughter date! When they got home they had a surprise – a new Nikon D3100! It’s a digital SLR that also does HD video recording. We had fun playing outside and fooling around with the camera for the rest of the afternoon.

After church on Sunday we had a yummy lunch at a local burger joint. We spent the rest of the day relaxing at home. What an enjoyable weekend!

She had a blast playing in the sink, even though she got completely soaked. If you listen carefully in the first video clip, you can hear her say the words dirty and dishes. In the second video you can hear her talking to herself towards the end – she does this all the time. I love listening to her sweet little voice!

On Saturday morning we had brunch with Grandma and Grandpa. Grandma had a bag full of beautiful clothes for Amelia, and Grandpa brought her a big pumpkin! We spent the rest of the day at home, so Mark could rest before going into work. He went in at 6PM to do a server upgrade and didn’t get home until 7AM! Poor guy – they ran into a few problems and still didn’t get it all done. They’ll have to do some more after-hours work in a week or so.

On Sunday morning Amelia and I tried to be as quiet as we could so that Mark could sleep. We watched a little TV and did some finger painting in the bathtub. Later in the afternoon, Mark watched Amelia while I ran out to do some errands. All in all, it was a pretty good weekend!

On Friday afternoon she put on her rain boots and had a dancey dance party!

On Saturday Amelia wore her special Tennessee jammies! Grandma and Grandpa came over to watch the game with us. While I was getting Amelia dressed before the game, she insisted on wearing her pink sun hat as well. What a funny little girl!

On Sunday we went to church and then took a long family nap. We all woke up feeling refreshed and then had a lot of fun playing with toys. Daddy decided to take Amelia on a special trip to Target, where she got her very own car! I’ll take some pictures later this week to show how much fun she has with it. We had a lovely weekend – it was the perfect way to rest up for the hectic week ahead!

On Friday morning she hopped into her toy stroller and gave me the cheesiest smile she could manage. I just love her! Recently her favorite book has become her Read and Learn Bible. It makes me so happy to read it to her! She loves looking at the animals in the creation story, and she also likes the story of David and Goliath. When you ask her what happens in the story, she points to the middle of her forehead! Later in the day during snack time we played with some stickers. Amelia LOVES stickers. She’ll take as many as I give her and stick them all over her arms, legs and head!

On Saturday Mark found an old shirt of his that has a penguin on the back. He put it on Amelia and she thought it was the funniest thing! She danced around the living room to show how much she liked her new shirt – what a cutie!

On Sunday afternoon we went up to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Grandpa had a fun bubble blower and we all enjoyed playing with the bubbles on the porch. That bubble blower is such a neat toy – so many bubbles at one time! Also, Grandma and Grandpa had a big surprise for us – they helped out with a clothing consignment sale on Saturday and bought Amelia a whole bag of winter clothes and shoes. Grandma and Grandpa are such a blessing to us – we are so thankful for them! Amelia’s favorite thing was the pair of pumpkin shoes. Grandpa found a fun pair of imitation Crocs that look like jack-o-lanterns – Amelia didn’t want to take them off!
