On Saturday Mark and I took Amelia to a local festival. We picked up a few neat crafts and enjoyed people-watching. Amelia loved looking at the horse-drawn carriages!
On Sunday we took Amelia to her very first movie – Rio. She loved it! We went to the $3 theater because we figured there wouldn’t be many people there (we were right!) and also because we didn’t want to waste a lot of money if Amelia cried/acted up and we had to leave before the movie was over. Amelia LOVED the movie and was perfectly behaved the whole time! She was fascinated with the projector room and kept turning around in her seat to look up there. She sat quietly, first in her own seat, then my lap, then Mark’s lap and then back to mine. During the closing song and dance number, Amelia stood up in the aisle and danced along with all of the birds on the big screen! As soon as it was over and we stood up to leave she started asking for more, and once we got to the car and told her we were going home she started BAWLING. She was so upset that we had to leave! Our poor girl cried most of the way home, although I’m sure the fact that it was over an hour past her bedtime didn’t help the situation.
On Monday Mark took Amelia to the pool as soon as it opened. They got there before anyone else and had the place to themselves for almost an hour! Amelia loves the water, and I know she enjoyed that special time with her daddy. Later that day we ran a few errands and ended up at the mall where we rode just about every escalator they had. Amelia was filled with such joy simply by riding the moving stairs. Mark and I are so blessed to be able to see the works anew through our child’s eyes. Thanks to Amelia, I can’t look at an escalator without smiling! We then had supper with Grandma and Grandpa, and they had a surprise for Amelia – her very own monkey flashlight! The last few times we have visited their house she has tried to claim Grandpa’s flashlight – now she has one of her own! She played with it all the way home, and right now it is sitting at the foot of her bed in case she decides she needs to peek around her room tonight. What a wonderful and fun-filled holiday weekend!

She grudgingly allowed me to take some pictures of her out on the porch – the second picture is the face I get any time I ask her to smile. The third picture is what I get when I ask her to show me her teeth. I should stop asking for smiles and start asking for teeth!
We went to a new frozen yogurt place to celebrate! Amelia enjoyed picking out her yogurt flavor and of course she loved picking the toppings. I was not surprised at all when she chose mini-reece’s pieces and white chocolate chips to top her yogurt. That little girl loves her chocolate!

She is constantly worried that it is going to storm (thunder). We have been doing EVERYTHING we can think of to calm her mind (removed the curtain in her room after she told us it was frightening her, two nightlights plus a small accent lamp in her room, bedroom door wide open, bathroom door wide open, bathroom light on, shower curtain pulled back to be sure nothing is “hiding”, etc. A few nights we even took turns sitting in the hallway in front of her door so she could see us as she went to sleep. That got old very fast when she started waking up two or more times after we had gone to bed and we would have to sit in her doorway in the middle of the night for hours at a time.
Something has changed though, and now Mark can calm her mind and get her back to sleep in the middle of the night. Her curtain is still down, doors are still open, lights are still on, but when she wakes up in the middle of the night Daddy can make it better and get her back to sleep. If I go in there it is just one stall tactic after another (rocking together, a drink of water, closing the bathroom door, rocking again, another drink, praying (although that one is precious), opening the bathroom door, etc. Then she just asks for her Daddy. We go in and wake him up and she brings him back to her room and he chases all of her fears away in just a few minutes. He is her knight in shining armor!

One afternoon while snacking on some apple slices she ran to get Violet and Baby Violet, got down on the carpet and started doing this!
On Memorial Day we went to Bays Mountain and Amelia really enjoyed looking at the map and directing us around the park!
